Vaginal Sampling of HPV and Cells
Regular and systematic screening has been shown to be highly effective, and Sweden is among the leading countries in this field. Rovers Medical Devices, an innovative Dutch company, specializes in developing and manufacturing effective sampling instruments for gynecology.
Clinical Studies
A Nordic comparative study (Järvi K, Cytopathology 1997, 8, 282–288) of around 1,000 samples showed early on that the Cervex-Brush® yielded more metaplastic cells compared to a standard brush (Cytobrush).
A Swedish study (Journal of the National Cancer Institute 2009, 101:2, 88–99) published in January 2009 reported that combining a Pap test with an HPV test increased the detection rate of severe gynecological cell changes (CIN III+) by 30%. The Cervex-Brush® is now routinely used for both tests.
A Dutch study (Cytopathology 2006, 17, 374–381) documented that the Cervex-Brush® yields high amounts of both ecto- and endocervical cells. The study also shows its effectiveness in both Pap testing and HPV quantification and typing. Today, both procedures are performed using the Cervex-Brush Combi.
A 2016 study (Simonsen M et al, PLOS ONE, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0164077, p 1–13, Oct 14, 2016) involving over 1,000 patients showed that a single sample with the Cervex-Brush Combi was more effective than using a standard brush (Cytobrush) combined with a standard spatula. The Cervex-Brush Combi resulted in higher yields of endocervical cells and greater sensitivity in diagnosing CIN2+ in patients with a cytological diagnosis of HSIL.
Unique Design for Optimal Cell Harvest
The unique design of the Cervex-Brush Combi ensures effective sampling of both endo- and ectocervical cells in a single procedure. The central microfilaments penetrate the endocervical canal while the surrounding bristles cover the entire ectocervical area, resulting in a representative sample from the entire transformation zone.
Simple and Effective Use
Insert the tip of the brush into the external os. Apply gentle pressure against the cervix until the side bristles bend slightly. Rotate the brush twice (2 x 360° clockwise) by rolling the handle between your thumb and forefinger.
